Problem riding thru East Fern Crescent Area

Riders be aware that the Trans Ridge Trail east of Mill St. on the 128th road allowance is closed to horses for the next month at the least. This also applies to the South Alouette River killer crossing further east. Both are impassible due to clearing and tunneling work being done for the sewer line to the Corrections Centres.
Check out these three scenarios on http://www.mapleridge.ca/assets/Default/Parks~and~Leisure~Services/pdfs/horsetrails.pdf go to map panel 3.

1. If you are coming from the south on the 240th crossing of the South Alouette, you are advised to turn left at Fern Crescent and right onto Mill St., then LEFT on 130th Ave a short way to How-D Trail’s switchbacks and along Shoesmith Crescent to the Ann&Earl Conn Trail north to the East Maple Ridge Trail to Golden Ears Park.

2. If coming from the southwest, e.g. Horseman’s Park, along 128th Ave and over Alder Crossing of the South Alouette, stay on 128th to cross east over Fern Crescent to go right onto Mill St., then LEFT on 130th Ave a short way to How-D Trail’s switchbacks and along Shoesmith Crescent to the Ann&Earl Conn Trail north to the East Maple Ridge Trail and right (east) to Golden Ears Park.

3. If coming from the west, e.g. Homestead Stables, along 132nd’s Fern Crescent, cut north (left) at Balsam and east (right) at Larch to 236th. Then left (north) into the Shull Trail. Stay on it past the Shoesmith Trail to the Tent Trail which will take you back around to the East Shoesmith without the rock scramble from the Shull Trail. Go left (east) on the East Shoesmith which will blend into the East Maple Ridge Trail to Golden Ears Park.

Each of these suggested routes takes you north of Fern Crescent and away from the Construction. Do not ride up Fern Crescent to the Park as the road shoulders are narrow and the traffic high and fast. Each route takes you over the new Millionaire Creek Bridge built this spring by HHA volunteers. Say a loud thank-you for their efforts.

This email was prompted by my speaking with a rider on Fern Crescent near Snake Hill who said there was no other way to get to the Park. These are THREE SAFER WAYS! Happy Trail Riding, Bill

Thanks Mike Barker and Dave Smith!

Thanks guys for guiding the Know Your Trails Ride on June 20th. It was good fun.
I forgive Roxey for kicking me in the butt - guess I needed that ;-) Lesson learned - even though you think the horses aree all well experienced and well behaved, anything can happen anytime. always be aware.

See you all on the next ride. Larry St.Onge will be leading that one.

Subject: Re: Kim tevis cup

Hi Bill and HH members, Montana and I arrived back to a barn full of banners and balloons and cake and carrots. Thank you all for your support and good wishes it really means alot. I thought about why I was lucky enough to be at Tevis as I rode along those 100 miles and I know it's because I'm able to train on our trail system here in Maple Ridge.I had many inquiries about my horse and how we train and I explained about the dedicated group at home who work so hard to maintain our wonderful trail system and the opportunity it gives us to ride through rivers, up and down mountains, rocky technical trail and canter along nicely groomed paths. It was truly a ride of a lifetime and I feel so lucky to have a great horse and friends like all of you. See you on the trail!!! Kim Hofmarks
